I get a lot of questions about "Against All Odds" (AAO) and some of them are the same questions over and over again. Sometimes I think it would just be easier for me to have an FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section. So. Here goes. Hope I can answer something for ya .

FAQ's

Q: Are these your characters?
A: No. Absolutely not. Pietro Maximoff and Lance Alvers are characters from the TV show X-Men: Evolution. The side characters in this fan comic (e.g.: Leah, Bernie, Dr. Tantum, Mable, Dirk Baxter, Senator Lloyd, etc.), however, are of my own creation. So are Pietro and Lance's kids.

Q: You seem to have a WAY different past than the comic books. What gives?
A: This comic series is based on the animated series, X-Men: Evolution. So, whatever the creators of the show say for the characters' history, is what I base their pasts on. They (un)fortunately left a lot of BIG GAPING HOLES in the past of the Brotherhood. Especially with Lance and Pietro. Those I got to have fun with. So don't be surprised if there aren't any Django Maximoffs or strange cow-women in THIS version of Pietro's past.

Q: Why don't Pietro and Lance look like Steve E. Gordon's future designs of the characters?
A: Simple answer for this one: I don't like the future designs. When we see the future designs of the X-Men: Evolution characters in the show, they are only a POSSIBLE future in the X-Men: Evolution world. This means I could've stuck with the possible future that Pietro takes steroids and Lance grows ugly facial hair, OR, I could take a different route. I chose a different route.

Q: What got you into MPREG?
A: Believe it or not, this couple! I had an RP game where we did the X-Men and Brotherhood futures. In it, Lance and Pietro were NOT together and had separate spouses and separate families. So I went into my head and considered what the future would've been like if Lance and Pietro had stuck together instead.

I figured Lance would want kids, Pietro probably wouldn't but would probably give in to Lance eventually anyway. There aren't a ton of options for two men to have babies. Adoption or surrogacy are the only options in the real world. Pietro, if he had to have a kid, would probably want a son from his lineage, which would cancel out adoption. But having Pietro and Lance raise a child that was really only Pietro's would break my heart a little. Even if they had a second child that was Lance's and a surrogate's, the two kids would still be only half-siblings. And if Pietro and Lance ever split up, for whatever reason, they'd have the card of "s/he's not really your child" and it would just break my ever-lovin' heart.

I got very frustrated and couldn't figure out how to give them a child that would be both of theirs. I finally got so frustrated I kind of just wished they could have the baby themselves. And then MPREG just kind of popped into my head.

Q: MPREG? How does that even WORK for these two?!
A: I am saved by the most awesome loophole EVER. Mutation. How can Lance make the ground swell and shake? How can Pietro run faster than the top speed of some cars? Mutation. It means I can have any mutant do anything. So if one mutant can read your mind, or fly, or teleport, or manipulate the probability of something happening...why can't a male mutant become pregnant?

Q: So why Pietro?
A: Out of the choice of either Pietro or Lance, I think you GOTTA go with Pietro. There are several reasons you can chose from: Pietro's more the uke because he's smaller, Pietro's always been more feminine in the show, Pietro would look a lot cuter than Lance during the pregnancy, etc. My favorite reason, though, is that Pietro is such an arrogant and egotistical bastard. I think that we, as an audience, would see a lot more character growth by making Pietro the pregnant one. Plus, it's often times in MPREGs that the father is more rejecting of the idea of having a child than the carrier is. I wanted to explore what it was like for the carrier of the child to be more adamantly opposed to the idea than the father.

Q: Are Pietro and Lance still in Bayville, New York?
A: Nope. They're moved to that windy city Chicago, Illinois.

Q: How old are Lance and Pietro?
A: At the beginning of the series 25 and 27. By the end of the first pregnancy, Pietro is 26 and Lance is 28.

Q: Why does Pietro have blush all the time?
A: This is another physical representation of Pietro's pregnancy. It's actually based off of the skin condition melasma AKA the "mask of pregnancy." Melasma is actually brown markings on the face and also not a very pretty skin condition most of the time. But, I liked the idea of it so I translated it into the blush on his face. This was so I could keep that facial marking of pregnancy without using a condition difficult to portray in a gray-scale comic.

Q: Is the Brotherhood going to play a role in AAO anytime soon?
A: You bet! Todd, Freddy, and Wanda will make an appearance in the future.

Q: Will the X-Men?
A: Not 100%. I have some plot ideas with the X-Men but haven't decided if I'll use them yet.

Q: Will Magneto?
A: Hey now! You can't expect me to give EVERYTHING away.
